Learn moreThe CDC’s 2020 National Post-acute and Long-term Care Study estimated about 710 residential care communities in Illinois with roughly 46,800 licensed beds, an average of about 66 beds each. Much of the competition is in the Chicago metro, where national chains and referral services bid on the same searches.
You do not need to outspend them. You win the map pack, your suburb’s name, and the long questions families ask before they call. See paid ads and SEO and AI search.
The Illinois Department of Public Health’s Division of Assisted Living licenses assisted living and shared housing establishments under the Assisted Living and Shared Housing Act and 77 Ill. Adm. Code Part 295. IDPH has licensed establishments since July 2002.
Illinois rules say no one may use “assisted living” in its name or advertising unless licensed for it, so your marketing should match your license. Families can check IDPH’s list of licensed establishments.
Illinois has a separate Medicaid option, the Supportive Living Program, run by the Department of Healthcare and Family Services. It covers services in certified supportive living facilities, which are a different setting from IDPH-licensed assisted living.
If you run a supportive living facility, or an assisted living community that families confuse with one, a clear page explaining what you are and how you are paid for saves everyone a wasted call.
